What's New for the 2026 Traverse

The 2026 Traverse is largely unchanged from the well-received third-generation redesign in 2024. After all, why change something that’s working perfectly?

Notable updates include:

  • Two new exterior colors: Polar White and Sandstone Gray
  • Modest price adjustments across the lineup
  • Four trims continue: LT, Z71, RS, and High Country

2026 Chevrolet Traverse Trim Levels

Every 2026 Traverse is equipped with the same 328-horsepower turbocharged engine and 17.7-inch touchscreen, so the trims are about how you want to use the vehicle, not about capability.

Traverse LT - The Value Play

The base model LT is the only trim available with eight-passenger seating thanks to its available second-row bench. For easier third-row access, choose captain's chairs.

Standard Highlights
  • 2.5L turbocharged engine, 328 horsepower
  • 17.7-inch diagonal touchscreen with Google built-in
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Chevy Safety Assist + Driver Confidence Package
  • LED front and rear lighting
  • Available panoramic dual-glass sunroof
  • Available all-wheel drive

Best for: Families who want maximum space without paying for extra features.

Traverse Z71 - Built for Weekends and Erie Winters

Every Traverse comes with all-wheel drive, but the Z71 takes things further. It's the only trim with a twin-clutch AWD system and an auto-locking rear differential. This hardware can shuffle torque between the rear wheels independently, on the fly, based on what each tire is actually gripping. Hit a snow-packed Route 20 or a slick launch ramp on Lake Erie, and that’s the difference between spinning a tire and getting where you're going.

Z71-Specific
  • Standard AWD with twin-clutch system
  • Underbody skid plates and front tow hooks
  • Terrain Mode and Hill Descent Control
  • 18-inch black machine-finished wheels with all-terrain tires
  • Off-road-tuned suspension
  • Available panoramic dual-glass sunroof

Best for: Anyone who tows frequently, drives unpaved roads, or simply wants the most capable Traverse when the lake effect starts.

Traverse RS - Sporty Sophistication

The RS is sporty and striking, with bold design and rugged features.

RS-Specific Features
  • 22-inch high-gloss black alloy wheels
  • Black grille and blackout exterior trim
  • Standard panoramic dual-glass sunroof with power sunshade
  • Sport interior with RS badging, flat-bottom steering wheel, and red accents

Best for: Those who want a three-row SUV that doesn't look like your average three-row SUV.

Traverse High Country- The Loaded One

The top-of-the-line High Country trim just might have you looking forward to your commute.

High Country-Specific Features Include
  • 22-inch black machined-face wheels
  • One-touch flat-folding second row and power-folding third row
  • Bose 10-speaker audio
  • Leather-appointed, ventilated front seats
  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Walk-up and exit lighting animation, sequential turn signals
  • Available Super Cruise hands-free driving

Best for: Anyone who wants an SUV that feels luxurious, without the luxury SUV price.

2026 Traverse Performance, Engine & Towing

Every 2026 Traverse runs the same engine regardless of trim: a 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard with AWD available on all trims except for the Z71, which only comes with AWD.

Four cylinders in an SUV this size may give you pause, but this turbocharged 2.5L makes more torque than the V6 it replaced, and it makes it low in the rev range, right where you need it when you’re merging on the highway.

When properly equipped, the Traverse tows up to 5,000 pounds. Translated into an actual Erie weekend, that's a 19-foot bowrider headed for Presque Isle Bay, a pop-up or small travel trailer bound for Pymatuning or Chapman State Park, or a pair of PWCs on a double trailer.

As for fuel economy, Chevrolet rates the Traverse at roughly 20 mpg city / 27 highway with front-wheel drive, or 19 city / 24 highway with all-wheel drive.2

Interior, Seating & Cargo Space

2026 Chevrolet Traverse interior seating and cargo space

Cargo capacity is where the Traverse shines against its competition. Behind the third row, you’ll have 22.9 cubic feet. Fold down the third row, and that expands to 56.6 cubic feet. Fold both rear rows down, and you've got up to 98 cubic feet for groceries, luggage, sports equipment, and more.

The third row splits 60/40, allowing you to haul your gear and your crew. Step up to the High Country, and you get a one-touch, flat-folding second row plus a power-folding third row, so it just takes a few seconds to reconfigure the whole cabin. And the Smart Sense Liftgate opens itself the moment it senses you approaching, so there’s no need to dig for a key fob when your hands are full.

Technology in the 2026 Traverse

Every 2026 Traverse comes with a best-in-class 17.7-inch diagonal touchscreen standard, including on the entry-level LT. It's paired with an 11-inch driver information display, with an easy-to-use icon-based layout.

Google built-in brings Google Maps and Google Assistant into the dash (service plan required). If you'd rather use your phone, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard as well. There are six USB ports spread across all three rows, with available wireless charging up front and an available Wi-Fi hotspot for the rest of the vehicle (service plan required). Higher trims add a Bose 10-speaker system and available active noise cancellation.

The headline feature is Super Cruise, GM's hands-free driving system, available on the Traverse and compatible with more than 600,000 miles of roads across North America, including long stretches of I-90 and I-79. If you regularly make the run to Pittsburgh, Buffalo, or Cleveland, it's worth asking for a demo.3

Safety Features

Every 2026 Traverse comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist and the Driver Confidence Package for extra peace of mind every time you get behind the wheel.

Together, they include features like:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Forward Collision Alert
  • Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Blind Zone Steering Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Braking
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • IntelliBeam automatic high beams
  • Rear Pedestrian Alert
  • Buckle to Drive and a Rear Seat Belt Reminder

Available equipment includes HD Surround Vision—a 360-degree camera that makes tight downtown parking noticeably less stressful—a Rear Camera Mirror, and a Head-Up Display.4

2026 Chevrolet Traverse FAQs

The Traverse is a mid-sized SUV, while the Tahoe is a truck-based full-size SUV. If you need three rows, room for eight, and 5,000 pounds of towing, the Traverse fits the bill while costing roughly $20,000 less. We recommend stepping up to the Tahoe if you need to tow heavier, want a V8, or regularly carry adults in the third row on long trips.

It can, but AWD is a better choice for areas that get snow. AWD sends power to all four wheels, which helps you safely navigate snowy roads.

Every new Traverse includes a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, both of which are transferable to the next owner. You also get 5 years/60,000 miles of roadside assistance and rust-through coverage for 6 years/100,000 miles.

Chevrolet covers your first scheduled maintenance visit at participating dealers within the first year of delivery. This typically includes an oil change, tire rotation, and multi-point inspection. Some exclusions apply. Call our service department, and we'll confirm what's covered on your vehicle.
