It’s equipped with Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, a three-inch factory lift with a wider stance, 17-inch wheels on 33-inch mud-terrain tires, front and rear locking differentials, full skid plates and rocker protection, and five drive modes including Baja. It also had underbody cameras—a first for this segment—so you can see the terrain more clearly.
Want to take things to the next level? The ZR2 Bison, developed with American Expedition Vehicles, adds 35-inch mud-terrain tires, five boron steel skid plates, front and rear jounce control dampers, and 12.2 inches of ground clearance. Chevrolet calls it the most off-road capable midsize truck they build, with best-in-class marks in ground clearance, breakover angle, and underbody protection.3

When properly equipped, the 2026 Colorado has a towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds. Maximum payload is 1,710 pounds on a 2WD WT or LT, and 1,700 pounds on those same trims with 4WD. It’s worth noting that the ZR2 has a lower towing capacity, maxing out at 6,000 pounds, because its long-travel off-road suspension trades some capability for wheel travel.4

Erie Winters, 4WD, and Drive Modes
The WT, Custom, and LT come standard with AWD, but 4WD is available. The Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 come with 4WD standard. If you live on the snow belt side of town, or your commute involves anything east of Erie on Route 20 in January, we highly recommend a four-wheel drive model.
The Colorado offers up to five selectable drive modes, which you can choose with a console dial:
